KERRY TABOR

Kerry

Principal

After leaving a career in environmental management and education in the early 90’s, Kerry established a Feng Shui and sustainable design consultancy. Her love of nature and her experience working in sick buildings motivated her to look for ways of creating healthy, satisfying and beautiful living and working environments, in environmentally responsible ways.

Kerry holds a degree in Applied Science, a graduate diploma in Environmental Science, and has considerable training and experience in Feng Shui. She also draws on her interior design credentials, and several years of overseas study and research into Indian sacred architecture, spiritual ecology and sustainability to provide an approach to design that is truly holistic.

Kerry asserts that our built environments alienate us from each other and from the natural world. “By designing living spaces that are life-giving and beautiful, we can live with balance and be our best in the world,” she says.

Cultivating Spirit of Place

conscious living

In an increasingly complex and depersonalised world, how to live with more balance and harmony is a key question for most of us. Somewhere in all the noise and stress of our lives we crave moments of peace, simplicity, beauty and meaning. We yearn to feel connected to community, nature and spirit. The current frenzy of home renovations and make-overs reveals our desire to make our immediate environments more personal and beautiful, in the hope that this will provide comfort from the harshness of the outside world.

There are plenty of magazines, TV programs and design experts that can show us how to make our homes 'look good' with the latest furnishings, gadgets and facilities, and always with consideration for future resale value. But very few of these sources actually address how we can fully enjoy and benefit from our homes now. How do we create living environments that actually support our busy lives, places that feel good to be in, spaces that express the story of who we are, that further our goals and our passions, and assist our lives to be more balanced and harmonious?

interior By listening to the unique dynamics of a building and its interior, by working with the subtle energies and influences of colour, light, symbols and materials, by arranging furniture so that it responds harmoniously to a room and its function, by selecting and positioning artwork and special pieces to express the story and the spirit of the people who live there, by optimising health and minimising environmental impact... these are just some of the ways we can make our homes into a sanctuary, and this is the work of Spirit of Design.

For people building a new home or renovating an existing building, attention and sensitivity to siting and orientation, together with an holistic design approach that responds to people, landscape, space and spirit can mean the difference between a fashionably correct but sterile house, or a home in which the soul is nurtured and the spirit inspired.

If you have the opportunity to influence your experience of your home (or your workplace) using good design, why wouldn't you choose to make them the most balanced and beautiful spaces they can be?

Our services address all aspects of home and workplace design. We guide harmonious arrangement of personal and business spaces – inside and outside. We work with new housing projects and individual homes, with streetscapes and gardens, with residential renovations, retail refurbishments and corporate fit-outs.
